A large part of the use of the physical environment is resources or posters. My CT explained to me that posters were one of her weak points, and she would love more in her classroom. I told her I would take it upon me to work on one right away. However, I wanted to be sure that it was beneficial to my students, and that it would be actively used. After observing students' weak points, I realized that many still struggled with rounding, and could use a reminder of the steps to follow, especially in the form of a rhyming poem. I also believed that this would prevent students from calling out, saying they don't understand, or asking unnecessary questions. Thus, the poster could also have been a managing tool. I also thought strategically about where to put the poster, and decided that the best place would be at the back table of the classroom, as this is where the students who need extra support usually go. Thus, I kept in mind the needs of the students while enhancing the physical environment of the classroom.
This week in our behavioral management class, we learned about the importance of physical space regarding a classroom. I believe that this is an aspect of teaching that I had given little thought to before being exposed to it in this class, and I now see the importance. The physical space is extremely important for student success, and can definitely affect the behavior, mood and environment of the classroom. I believe that some teachers do not pay enough attention to physical space, or some just fill it with resources and items that don't foster the ideal learning environment, particularly one that meets the needs of the current students. It was interesting to learn of the different ideal physical environments according to student ages, and I now keep this in mind as I work in my fourth grade classroom.

That's a cute poster. I'm glad you're working with your CT to enhance the physical environment.
