This week, I collected data based on my action plan. I decided to focus on Gillian's areas of weakness, which were her writing conventions, spelling and grammar, and use this as a tool to stimulate her. I asked Giselle to be my "reporter" and to write a report about everything I taught and what she learned concerning the Rocks and Minerals unit. Her face immediately lit up with excitement and she was eager to take on the task at hand. I planned this strategically, as Gillian usually feels lack of stimulation during Math, as she is chapters ahead of the rest of the class, and thus is always struggling to entertain herself. Thus, before she could ask, "what's next." or "I'm done," I had her begin writing this report. This was done to engage Gillian for more than one reason. Firstly, she has not mastered writing as she has Math/Science so it is more of a challenge. Additionally, she loves being given roles which she views as important. This gives her a sense of purpose. Once Gillian completed this task, I had a conference with her. As seen in the photo, I highlighted any errors that Gillian made in her writing. This was a way to ensure that Gillian is still making educational gains rather than simply plateauing because she is a higher leveled student. I believe that this action was a success, and my data collection effectively supports it.
