My CT Interview about my inquiry was very insightful, and was a reminder of the importance of using resources around you to gain more information. My CT and I discussed my inquiry, which is based on the wondering of “"How can I provide enrichment opportunities for my high performing student to ensure that she is constantly stimulated?” (See Interview Notes Posted).
My CT emphasized how significant the work that I am doing is, due to the fact making learning gains in vital for student growth, and that they need to always be making improvements no matter how gifted or talented they are. She suggested great ideas such as utilizing more project based learning, which involves her having to combine and apply a variety of skillsets, rather than just focusing on one skill at a time. She also gave me a variety of resources including technological and human resources that would be useful to me now and in the future.
Based on my CT Interview, my action plan taken to impact student learning is to analyze Gillian strengths and weaknesses. The reason for this is that she thoroughly enjoys a challenge, as this is what stimulates her. Thus, by analyzing her test scores, anecdotal notes, and talking to her team ELA teacher, I was able to conclude that Gillian’s reading scores are not as high as her Math and Science scores. Thus, I will use this as a way to engage Gillian. For example, I plan to have her be my “reporter”, in order to summarize information learned in Math and Science. Then, we will work on her grammar, writing conventions and spelling on her products. I believe that this will prevent her from feeling bored, unengaged or as if nothing is a challenge for her. Looking ahead, I plan to implement project based learning with Gillian also.
